Position Summary:

As a value-based care provider, quality is the focus. The Medical Officer will be responsible for contributing to market clinical strategy, excellence, and quality, and/or clinical oversight in Des Moines, Iowa. They will lead a team of clinical and Behavioral Health staff and work closely with Case Management to care for an underserved population. In addition to caring for patients in a clinic setting, they will have the opportunity to do virtual visits and on occasion deliver care to patients in the home. In this role, you will collaborate with the General Manager and work as a dyad to promote efficiency and processes within the clinic. This role is the entry-level management job for the clinical leadership career path. Leadership responsibilities for the clinical team with a strategic strategy for community and market development as it relates to AIP and yearly KPI goals.

Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Assists market leadership in developing and executing comprehensive and coordinated clinical programs, improving clinical excellence and quality, and/or providing clinical oversight of care

  • Provides patient care in both clinic and virtual settings, with occasional in-home care delivery one or more areas as physician daily

  • Collaborates with hospitals and care management teams to decrease ER visits and unnecessary hospitalizations by reviewing patients with case managers

  • Will take call nights and weekends as scheduled and be responsible for maintaining clinic on-call schedule

  • Develops and improves training practices and materials

  • Hires, trains, coaches, counsels, and evaluates performance of direct reports

Qualifications

  • Requires an MD/DO; completion of Internal Medicine or Family Medicine residency

  • 2 -3 years of experience as a practicing physician in hospital medicine, Primary care, or Family practice

  • Requires current unrestricted medical licensure in applicable state(s) and board eligibility or board certification

  • DEA license required

  • Experience driving KPI’s while understanding HEDIS scores with a keen eye to reduce gap closure

  • For CareMore business units, satisfactory completion of a Tuberculosis test is a requirement for this position

    Preferred requirements:

  • 2+ years Leadership experience with responsibilities of managing direct and indirect reports
